Save the date for Chair-ries Jubilee 2009

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (Oct. 28, 2007)—Mark your 2009 calendar for one of the premier social/fundraising events in Cleveland.

The 2009 Chair-ries Jubilee fundraiser is set for Friday, April 17, at the Museum Center at 5ive Points at 6 p.m. The Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce will present the 11th annual fundraiser to raise funds for arts in education and arts-related activities in the community.

Organizers have selected a unique theme for the event—“Re-imagine”—in keeping with the trend to “go green” and curb harmful effects on the environment by recycling old household items.

“The idea came from a magazine article and from a poem the Cleveland Daily Banner uses each year to promote advertising in their classified ads,” Chair-ries Jubilee Chairman Nancy Casson said.

The poem reads:

We don’t call it old, we call it antique.

I don’t think it’s ugly, I think it's unique.

It isn’t silly, it’s simply quaint.

It doesn’t need tossing, it just needs paint.

It’s not dented, it’s simply scratched.

It doesn’t need mending, I’ll just have it patched.

It has plenty of years left and the price is right.

It’ll look brand new if we just paint it white!

“Our artists and craftsmen are an imaginative group of individuals,” Casson continued. “Each year they ‘re-imagine’ old furniture—chairs, tables, dressers, you name it. It’s amazing what a little paint and creativity will do for a piece of furniture that looks like it’s ready to be tossed.”

Casson also noted that the event will move to Friday night in 2009.

“We have a busy community, and major events get booked early,” she said. “To make sure everyone has a chance to participate, we’re moving to a new night. So save the date.”

Since its inception, Chair-ries Jubilee has invested over $195,000 into local schools in Teacher Grants and Visiting Artists.
